Our story

1970 - 2004 History Image

1970 - 2004

Acta Marine was established in 2005 from the merger of two Dutch workboat companies, Waterweg and Van Stee, which were founded in the early 1970s. Based in the north of the Netherlands near the Wadden Sea tidal flatlands, both companies specialized in marine support for dredging and infrastructure projects primarily in the North Sea. They expanded their operations to include projects in the Mediterranean, the Baltic, and West Africa, often under contracts with European contractors for towage, salvage operations, and annual near-shore cable inspection and reburials. Van Stee developed a strong role in supporting shallow water oil and gas facilities in the Netherlands and Germany.

2005 - 2014 History Image

2005 - 2014

Following its formation in 2005 through a merger, Acta Marine rapidly established itself as a leader in the operation of coastal and shallow draft workboats. The company innovated by introducing dynamic positioning systems to workboats, a first in the industry. Acta Marine also undertook a significant fleet renewal program, investing in new, modern vessels. Their international expansion extended their reach globally, involving projects in diverse regions from Chile to Korea, and significant engagements in the Middle East and West Africa. Acta Marine’s contributions have been notable in major projects such as the Palm Islands in Dubai and the Maasvlakte-2 in Rotterdam.

2015 - 2023 History Image

2015 - 2023

Acta Marine entered the offshore wind market in 2007 with a charter at Prinses Amalia Wind Park. The company expanded significantly by acquiring 10 Crew Transfer Vessels (CTVs) in 2015 and launching the Acta Orion, a walk-to-work vessel. They added two more walk-to-work vessels, the Acta Auriga in 2018 and the Acta Centaurus in 2019, supporting major wind projects in Germany and Belgium. Today, Acta Marine is a leader in Construction Support Vessels for offshore wind, with a strong fleet serving wind projects, coastal infrastructure, and shallow-water Oil & Gas sectors globally.
